About Treatment

What types of dentures are available?

Full dentures: Replace all of the teeth in the upper or lower jaw and rest on the gums.
Partial dentures: Replace one or more missing teeth and clip onto your remaining natural teeth for support.
Implant-retained dentures: Secured onto dental implants for improved stability, giving greater confidence when eating and speaking.

During your consultation, we will assess your oral health and recommend the most suitable option for you.

How are dentures made?

We begin with a full examination and take impressions or digital scans of your mouth.
Our dental laboratory crafts your dentures to match your facial shape, gum colour and any remaining natural teeth.
We check the fit, comfort and appearance at a try-in stage before the final dentures are fitted.
Follow-up appointments allow us to make any small adjustments needed for comfort.

What should I expect when adjusting to new dentures?

It is normal for new dentures to feel unfamiliar for the first few weeks.
Start with soft foods cut into small pieces and chew on both sides of your mouth.
Practising reading aloud can help your speech adapt more quickly.
Some initial soreness is common; we can adjust your dentures to improve comfort, so please let us know.

1. How long do dentures last?

Dentures typically last between 5 and 10 years. Over time, your gums and jawbone naturally change shape, so dentures may need relining, adjusting or replacing to maintain a comfortable, secure fit.

2. Will my dentures look natural?

Yes. Modern dentures are custom-made to complement your facial features, skin tone and any remaining natural teeth. We work closely with our dental laboratory to ensure your dentures look as natural as possible.

3. Can I eat normally with dentures?

Yes, although it can take a little practice. Start with soft foods cut into small pieces, and gradually reintroduce firmer foods as you adjust. Implant-retained dentures offer additional stability for extra confidence when eating.

4. How do I clean my dentures?

Clean your dentures daily with a soft brush and a non-abrasive denture cleaner, and remove them at night to allow your gums to rest. Regular dental check-ups are still important to monitor the fit of your dentures and the health of your gums.

5. What are implant-retained dentures?

Implant-retained dentures are dentures that clip securely onto dental implants placed in the jaw. They offer significantly more stability than conventional dentures, prevent slipping and can help preserve the jawbone. We can assess your suitability at a consultation.

I had a very positive experience throughout my fixed braces treatment. Dr Shumaila was consistently professional, knowledgeable, and attentive at every appointment. She always took the time to clearly explain what level treatment / adjustment was being carried out and why, which gave me confidence and helped me understand my progress throughout the overall process.What particularly stood out was the level of care and support provided outside of appointments.
